How to Create a Set of Chakra Healing Crystals
Many people believe that disease is caused by imbalances in the body’s energy. When we talk about energy in this way, it does not refer to energy as just something obtained from food but to the vital life force that is present in every living thing. This is known by many names including chi, prana, life force, mana, light and ki. This energy force varies from person to person and even day to day as it is affected by many things around us in life. We absorb this energy from the food and drink we consume as well as the air that we breathe, and so it is affected by the quality of these.
Our life force energy is also altered by our experiences, people that we encounter and places that we go. These changes can be positive: for example when we take a relaxing walk in the countryside or they can have a harmful impact on our energy, creating negative energy without us and over time changing our outlook on life, health and well-being. Our energy can also become depleted or stale if not maintained in a healthy way. If this unhealthy state continues it can lead to a huge range of physical, mental, emotional and spiritual issues and disease.
Chakra is a Sanskrit word that means wheel. These are concentrated areas of life force energy that are located at various points within the body. There are believed to be seven main chakras located in the body, between the base of the spine and the top of the head, and these help to maintain the correct flow of energy throughout the body. Each of the seven chakras has connections to aspects of life and well-being as well as colours, bodily organs, behaviours and illness.
Our life force energy is constantly moving through the body and flows in and out of the chakras. It is vitally important that this energy flow is not interrupted or blocked at any point as this will have a negative impact on life and well-being, causing a range of issues such as anxiety, angry outbursts, physical health issues, hormonal imbalances and insecurity. As well as becoming blocked, chakras can become imbalanced and be either over or underactive. This too can create a range of difficulties and health wellbeing issues.
Some of the difficulties and issues that can stem from imbalanced or blocked chakras include:
- Base or root chakra (Muladhara) – fear, hoarding, paranoia and insecurity
- Sacral chakra (Svadisthana) – Obsessive attachments, poor body image, jealousy and manipulative behaviours
- Solar Plexus chakra (Manipura) – aggression, judgmental attitude, hypersensitivity to criticism and lack of belief in oneself
- Heart chakra (Anahata) – co-dependency, jealousy and a tendency to help or give to others more than is healthy
- Throat chakra (Vishuddha) – lack of confidence and difficulties in expressing their thoughts, needs, wants and emotions
- Brow chakra (also known as the third eye) (Ajna) – poor memory and concentration, headaches, thyroid issues and sleep-related issues
- Crown chakra (Sahasrara) – confusion, headaches, rigid behaviours and general lack or harmony and peace in life.
Rebalancing the Chakras
When blockages occur in the chakras there are several ways that this can be rectified. The beneficial and transformative properties of crystals are an ideal way to gently balance any issues with the chakras and the flow of energy force within the body. Further to this, each chakra is associated with a specific colour and this can be incorporated into healing by using crystals of that colour.
Crystals can be used to gently release any blockages and correct imbalance in the chakra system. It is possible to buy sets of chakra crystals consisting of one stone for each of the seven main chakras. These come in different shapes and varieties and one common type are round flat crystals engraved with the corresponding chakra symbol. These sets can be nice for people just starting out as they contain everything you need, however it means that you are unable to choose or be guided to which crystals you would like to work with.
As with all aspects of crystal healing, the stones that you choose do not have to be large or expensive in order to work. Even the smallest specimens possess the same vibrational energy and ability to heal. They also do not have to all be bought at the same time and you can build your set over time if you wish and they do not have to all be used together, it is fine to work with one chakra if that is all that is needed. If you have difficulty obtaining crystals for any reason clear quartz has the ability to work with and benefit any of the chakras.
Crystals that are to be used in healing require cleansing to remove any build-up of negative energy they contain. Crystals should also be cleansed when you first bring them home. This is because they will have travelled through various environments before coming to you and will have picked up much energy along the way. Cleansing is a simple process that can be carried out in a number of ways including leaving crystals in the moonlight, smudging and holding the stones under running water. If using water care should be taken as some varieties, such as selenite can be damaged by water. Crystals can also be cleansed in sunlight but again care should be taken as this can cause their colours to fade.
Choosing Your Crystals
When choosing crystals to use in chakra healing and balancing the stones typically match the colour associated with that chakra. Although this is not 100% fool proof, it is a good base to start from. You intuition can be used in helping to choose crystals in the same way as for healing. You may also feel drawn towards a particular variety of crystal. Your crystals do not have to all be the same size or shape in order to work well. These aesthetic qualities make no difference to their vibrational energy and abilities, it is much more important that you are working with stones that you feel happy and comfortable with.

Using Your Chakra Crystal Set
A simple way to carry out a chakra balancing exercise with crystal can be done at home any time that you need. All you need in order to carry out the exercise is your set of seven crystals, a comfortable space to lie down and time during which you will not be disturbed. Ensure that your crystals have been cleansed and sit comfortably with them placed in front of you. Starting with the crystal that you have chosen for you base chakra, pick up the stone, close your hand around it and close your eyes. Visualise the energy of crystal and that it has the ability to correct any issues found within your chakra. Some people like to ask the crystal for its help in healing and this can be done out loud or in your head. This step is not essential as your intention for the exercise in enough to guide the energy. It is important to be clear that you would like any healing and balancing to be carried out for the greatest good. Sometimes things can be wrong and we do not understand why until later when we realise there was a lesson to learn or that we have been guided to a certain path, thing or person. Asking that the healing is for the greatest good considers these matters and brings what is best for us overall, rather than just in this moment.
Once you carried out the short visualisation with each crystal you can place them onto your chakras in turn. Lie on your back beside the crystals and starting with the base chakra, place each stone onto its corresponding chakra. This can be a little tricky at first so not worry if you have to make more than one attempt. Once all of the crystals are in place, starting with the base chakra visualise the energy of the stone travelling into the chakra, removing any blockages present and calming or stimulating the chakra as needed. Repeat this visualization for each of the seven chakras in turn, spending a few minutes focusing on each one. When this is complete visualise your life force energy flowing freely throughout your chakra system for several minutes. Take a few minutes to rest and slowly bring your awareness back to the room before getting up and continuing with your day.

Questions & Answers
Can you recommend a good book about crystals?
"The Crystal Bible" by Judy Hall is very good. There are three volumes which contain general information on crystals and detailed properties on a huge range of stones.
