Reiki Healing and Christianity
Hope and Healing to the Hurting
As I travel through this life, one of my goals is to bring hope and health to hurting people. I do this in a variety of ways, not only through my writing and public speaking, but also as a certified massage therapist and a Reiki master.
Over the years, I have placed my hands onto a variety of people suffering from a number of different ailments, from depression to fibromyalgia. I have helped people suffering from headaches, backaches, and acute and chronic pain of all sorts.
Massage does miraculous things to the body. But, it is not the only thing I am using. I use the energy of the Universe (or, from God, if you are so inclined to believe) to offer healing to a hurting world.
What is Reiki?
Reiki, pronounced Ray-key, is a Japanese name, consisting of the words Rei or Universal life force, and Ki, the energy which animates us and is found in all of us.
Reiki is a form of spiritual energy healing, which directs the energy of the Universal life force through the practitioner and into the recipient.
Reiki helps to harmonize the mind, body, and spirit. Reiki is not attached to any particular belief system or religion. It is available to use and to be received by anyone who is willing.
Everything in the universe is comprised of energy. Each atom that makes up every thing moves constantly. The movement among and between these atoms is energy. Everything in the Universe is always moving and always changing.
Reiki healing manipulates the energy surrounding people, animals, and even plants, in order to bring the system into balance and health. Reiki is a Japanese healing technique that is used for stress reduction and relaxation, and can help heal and balance the energetic body.
Following a Reiki treatment, or a massage that includes Reiki, a recipient may feel more relaxed, peaceful, balanced and energetic. While Reiki can be used in healing, these claims are difficult to prove, except anecdotally.

The Reiki Ideals
The Reiki Ideals were developed by Mikao Usui, several years after Reiki was developed. Usui wanted to add spiritual ideals to Usui Reiki. He wanted people to realized that healing the spirit through conscientious improvement in oneself is a necessary part of the Reiki healing experience.
The Reiki Ideals
Just for today, do not anger
Do not worry, and be filled with gratitude
Devote yourself to your work. Be kind to people.
Every morning and every evening, join your hands in prayer.
Pray these words to your heart and chant these words with your mouth.
As a healer, who uses Reiki, and as a Christian, I have been warned that Reiki healing is not biblical, nor godly. It has been compared to witchcraft and black magic. These comparisons have been drawn by people who have no experience with Reiki, nor any understanding of the complex forces at work in the universe.
In addition, those who claim that I am using black magic or witchcraft, have no real understanding of spirituality, nor the nature of God. God is a loving, caring Higher Power, who wants us to use our gifts to improve the world around us. If we have been given a gift, we have a duty to express that gift to make the world a better place. We honor God best, when we use the gifts he has given us, and that includes healing others, if that is indeed something God has gifted us with.
Reiki healing seems simple, it is the manipulation of energy. However, the complexities of sensing energy, and knowing how, where and why to enter into a field of energy are not easily explained, and even more difficult to understand. There is nothing magical about it. It is simply using positive energy to remove negative energy.
When I work on a client, I close my eyes and place my hands on their shoulders, feeling their energy. There is nothing to see. It is felt with the body and with my own energy. As I move my hands, I am sensitive to what is blocked or stuck, and what is flowing. My job as a Reiki healer is to help restore balance to the energetic system. As I begin, I ask God to guide my hands, to show me where to go and how much pressure to apply. I listen intently, with my hands and heart, to what the client is saying and to where God is directing my hands.
These systems were created and are powered by a higher source, whether you choose to call that source of power God, Buddha, or Creator. That he gives some of us different gifts, and callings is indeed biblical. Everyone is gifted differently, and whether we choose to use the gifts bestowed upon us is a matter of personal choice.
God has given me the gift of healing. I don't brag, or say it proudly. Simply stated, God works through my hands to make other people feel better. I do not claim to heal on my own power. I pray, and ask him to use me, as it would best serve the person I am working with. I allow God and the Universal healing energy to move through me and into my clients. I allow him to show me where to work, and to tell me when I've done enough. I do not claim to be a healer. God is a healer, and I am his instrument.
Rest and Relaxation Reiki
Fear of the unknown drives many people to lash out. People speak boldly, about that which they do not know. Their fear of the unknown causes them to cast aspersions on something they do not understand.
Rather than speak badly about someone or something you do not know, reserve judgement. It is not your place to judge others, and the path they are on. You can only judge yourself and your own path. Are you walking a path that reflects who you were truly created to be? If not, perhaps you could pull back and look inside yourself.
Realize that God is the one true judge, and he has created us to love. If we act out of love, rather than fear, we serve ourselves, and those around us. God calls each one of us to live and serve our highest purpose. He has created each one of us with special gifts and talents. Find your gifts and talents, and use them to make the world a better place.
I encourage everyone reading this, whether christian or non, to seek out someone who will perform a Reiki treatment. You will find that you feel better, have more energy, and sleep more soundly as a result of a manipulation of your energy field.

Usually, you will need to make an appointment with a Reiki practitioner to have the healing performed. If you are attuned, then you can do it for yourself anytime. Or if you have a friend or family member who performs Reiki, they might be willing to do it for you whenever you ask.
