Earth is thought of as a cool, dry and feminine energy that is grounding, calming and balancing in nature. In Greek philosophy, earth was one of four elements that formed the basis of everything in existence. Plato associated this element with darkness, thickness and quiet. Earth is associated with stability, health, wealth, family, success and prosperity and as an element can be worked with on its own or in combination with the other elements. This element is also useful for grounding and helping us to keep our feet firmly planted on the ground and within reality. The element of earth may be represented on an altar, sacred space or within rituals and magic in a number of ways including by stones, crystals, salts or simply using soil. The colours commonly associated with earth are brown, black and green.
