I have studied crystal healing for many years and have studied and been attuned to reiki levels one, two, and masters.

Although not a crystal in the traditional sense, igneous rocks are used as healing crystals due to the fact that they possess a range of beneficial properties. Obsidian is, in fact, a form of naturally occurring glass that forms when lava cools quickly which prevents it from crystallising. Black is the most common form of obsidian but it can also be found in colours such as brown and green and less commonly blue, red, orange or yellow. Varieties such as snowflake or mahogany obsidian feature a combination of colours in various markings and patterns.

Due to the quick cooling and formation of obsidian, it is believed to be a fast-acting stone that works without boundaries and limitations. It is found all over the world and has been utilised by humans since prehistoric times. Obsidian’s reflective qualities are excellent in exposing flaws, weaknesses and blockages. A downside of this is that it can cause negative emotions, unpleasant truths and repressed feelings to rise quickly and this may feel overwhelming to some. Mahogany obsidian has a gentler energy so is a good choice if this may be a problem.

Obsidian is a protective stone that can shield against negativity, psychic attacks and negative or unwanted spiritual influences. It can help clear mental stress by helping us to realise and resolve the root of this. These crystals can aid in clearing the mind and eliminating energy blockages.
