The skin as a living organism. It is the biggest organ in the body. The following seven factors come into play to allow the skin to function properly unhindered by pimples, acne or blemishes. The skin is

1. The Skin Is the Organ of Touch and Feeling
Most of the senses we possess to touch and feel, to make us aware of our environment, lie in the fine nerve endings under the skin. Goose pimples are a sign of cold or extreme emotion as in goose pimples going down your spine when watching your favourite circus act. When you have been sitting in one position for too long, you may get pins and needles. That sensation makes you move, to allow stuck blood circulation to proceed unhindered. When it is too hot the skin tells us to take off a layer of clothing. When there is too much poison in the body the skin rejects it in the form of pimples, skin rash and acne. Each sensation demands action on our part to remedy a problem posed by the living skin organ.
2. Skin Regulates Body Temperature
Are you too cold, too hot, itchy, in pain, or enjoying a caressing breeze on your face? As they come closer to the skin surface, the nerves branch out and become thinner. If you look at the cross-section of the skin picture again you'll see that the nerve branches carry some "tactile corpuscles", which literally means “touch bodies”, pushing up curiously towards the surface to tell you what the skin feels. In addition, the subtle movement of the hair helps the body retain a safe temperature.

Hair Has Tiny Muscles
A hair root is implanted in a follicle (hair bed). Minute bundles of involuntary muscle fibers called the "arrector muscles" (encircled in red on the illustration) cause movement in the follicle to alter the angle at which the hair stands on the skin. When you are cold, the hairs stand erect to retain more body heat.
To feel how these tiny muscles work, do the following unusual hair-raising experiment.
Tiny Muscle Test
It is absolutely crucial that you relax the face during this experiment. It may be the case that, if you are unable to relax, you will not feel the action.
You will need:
- a small pan of boiling water with a lid on it.
- access to a refrigerator.
Note: Don’t do this experiment if you suffer from high blood pressure.
- Put the pan of hot water on a surface next to the fridge.
- Open the freezer compartment.
- Hold your face in or near the open freezer.
- Close your eyes and relax your face.
- Stay in the cold for 30 slow counts or more until your face feels really cold.
- Still keeping your face relaxed, take the lid off the pan and quickly move your face over the steam. Don’t go too close to the steam. Close your eyes and relax them. Breathe through the nose.
Wow! A tingling sensation will rise all over your cheeks. This is caused by the movement of thousands of little muscles moving each hair follicle to adapt to the change in temperature. The power within these tiny little muscles is the secret behind the success of any face rejuvenation system.
4. The Skin Secretes Lubricant to Keep It Moist and Supple
The sebaceous glands owe their name to sebum, the substance they secrete. Sebum lubricates the skin to keep it soft and supple so that it does not crack. lf the skin is exposed to a dirty environment, the oily sebum will pick up dust and dirt. In a clean environment, it would be better not to wash the skin too much, as constantly removing the sebum with soap and water deprives the skin of its own natural lubrication. When the skin has to be washed a lot, “substitute sebum” is added in the form of creams, and moisturizing products that feed the greedy cosmetics industry more than your skin. How to Reduce the Appearance of Blood Vessels
Blood vessels dilate when you are hot to let the warm blood rise up to the surface to cool off. In cold weather, the blood vessels are contracted so that little body heat is lost. It is a good idea to clean the face with warm water to allow the dirt to flush out, followed by a rinse with cold water or iced water, to keep the skin tight and clean. What you eat is what you are. lf you fill your body with poisons, your skin will reject some of those poisons in the form of pimples, sores, and other blemishes.
Environmental factors also affect the skin. In a hot, dry climate, your skin can become very dry. In a moist, cold climate, stiff and tight. After a day in the city, your face needs a sauna. After a day on the farm, you are washing off “clean dirt".

Before l started exercising my face, whenever l got into an angry shouting match with someone, or had been very upset about something, l could count on the appearance of a pimple turning into a cold sore on my mouth the next day as substantial proof of the poisonous words, thoughts, and feelings l had experienced the previous day. Feelings of stress cause negative chemical reactions in the body.

The cosmetics industry labels three skin types: normal, dry or oily. The truth is that skin type depends on your ancestral roots—your genetic makeup. Your skin will be more sensitive if you have a family history of eczema or poor skin condition. Nordic people’s fair hair and skin lets in more light than dark skin.
