Shibangi is continuously discovering herself and striving to be a better person. She shares her ways of living a better life.
Everyone dreams of a bright future and enormous success, but dreaming alone doesn’t make your dreams come true. Hard work plays a vital role in achieving your desires.
Even knowing this fact, for some people working hard to achieve your dreams remains difficult. There may be two reasons for this. Firstly, some people are too lazy to turn their thoughts into action. Secondly, dilemma, confusion, and procrastination combined can create a barrier based on fear. This stops people from effectively challenging themselves.
If you are one of the two types of people mentioned above, here are some things to think about regarding why the transformation of dreams into reality is essential to your happiness. Hopefully, I'll give you some ideas about how to achieve your dreams or goals by working hard. Lying lazily in a cozy bed will get you nowhere. In this article I offer three ways to improve your work ethic:
- Learn to Enjoy Hard Work
- Work Smarter
- Eliminate Distractions
1. Enjoying Life and Gaining Success Is A Myth (Unless You Enjoy Working Hard!)
Life is a journey full of experiences, but you can't experience everything all at once. While you are experiencing certain things, you will miss others. It may seem like sometimes you have to sacrifice a good time in order to work hard and vice versa.
What if you could enjoy life while working hard? Sounds interesting, doesn't it? Is it actually possible? Yes! It's possible that if you follow your passion, then you won’t feel much boredom during hard work.
Indeed we should enjoy our lives but not at the stake of our future. What if things started getting difficult in the future because of all the time you spent "living in the moment"?
Let's Break Down Enjoyment
Enjoyment, like any other feeling, has both positive and negative aspects. You can experience beautiful things and enjoy them, though all of them are not necessarily valuable.
Enjoyment can also help you understand your calling. When you enjoy doing something, recognize you could turn it into a monetizable passion. That doesn’t mean, however, that you have to use activities you do for fun to find out what you have to ultimately do in life. No pressure!
2. Smart Work vs. Hard Work
In my experience, there are very few people around who prefer hard work over smart work. Where did the term ‘smart work’ come from?
What Is Smart Work?
Smart work generally means focusing on the most important things rather than on the whole task. It's also known as 'prioritization'. Smart work is particularly useful when one lacks enough time to do work. So, prioritizing and focusing on things that are necessary helps you accomplish your goals. Smart work helps you work harder faster, and brings you closer to completing tasks that contribute to your success.
But can smart work replace hard work in its entirety? No. Although working smart is needed at a particular time and helps to achieve goals quickly, hard work is an inseparable part of our lives that leads us to good habits down the road.
For example, successful entrepreneurial businesses flourish in a foundation of combined hard work and smart work. Shortcuts lead you nowhere. So, everyone must try to balance hard work and smart work.
3. Put Your Favorite Distraction at Stake
Now, this might sound silly, but it could work. Say you have to complete a task, but you are not able to finish it because you are distracted by other things. What should you do?
Remove the Distraction
Let say one of your favorite distractions is binge-watching web series or playing on your phone. One solution is to commit to yourself to waiting to watch web series until you finish your work, or putting your phone away until your task is complete.
It's Not Working. What Now?
Only able to resist the temptation for a short period? Get creative! If you let the commitment vanish, one solution to this is handing over the device to one of your parents or a trusted roommate.
Another way to avoid binge-watching or toying with your phone while you are doing work is to change the password of apps, or even delete them, making it difficult to access them quickly and easily. Eliminating the distraction allows you to focus on more important things.
This is just one example. Every person has his/her own favorite distraction. Discover new ways on your own to stave temptation until you revive your focus and concentration.
I'm pretty pleased with how I've balanced and combined work with pleasure. I enjoyed my life a lot when I was pursuing my 11th and 12th class in a college (which is incredibly challenging). That being said, I didn't have any direction in life.
I realized I had wasted a lot of my valuable time from that period then when I further underwent medical coaching classes for my NEET (National Eligibility Entrance Test) exams. I realized study was not as boring as I thought. Later I regretted that I could have studied better and had more fun.
Peering into my present scenario, what I am doing is an example of fruitful enjoyment. I have discovered writing as my passion. How did I know? I realized that I could write the whole day without feeling bored, and I decided to take up writing as a hobby and a way to make money.
I do not want my example to mislead you. You can find your passion at any point in life. And no doubt, if you're strongly determined, you will be able to fulfill it. But it is better to figure it out earlier and acquire good habits that help you work as hard as you can. That’s how you can enjoy life, fulfill your dreams, and potentially, make some money.
Shortcuts only help you achieve your dreams partially, but hard work can carry you through many difficult ups and downs.
It might be exhausting and time-consuming, but if you put your mind to it you can accomplish anything. You will fly high bearing the wings of success.
So, here are some of my perspectives about the importance of hard work in achieving dreams. I hope it ignites your dormancy and fills you with liveliness. Continue dreaming, keep doing hard work, and let me know about your perception of hard work in the comments below!

Thank you Danny! Actually for writing this article, I got the inspiration from my young sister. She has so many dreams but hard work is never her thing. Well in her age I was fickle too. So this is a small attempt to make her understand and all those who exhibit this type of behavior.

Shibangi you have explained everything so concisely.
